My son Caelan was born on 12/20/07 at 25 weeks after I was diagnosed with pre-eclampsia and hospitalized. Even though he was born 15 weeks early the doctors were extremely optimistic that I would take him home in a few months. Then, out of nowhere, he caught an infection, and his body shut down. His blood pressure dropped and his kidneys stopped functioning. We had to make the excruciating decision to take him off life support when he was 23 days old. My wonderful nurse Eugene at Presbyterian St. Lukes told me about NILMDTS. I was reluctant at first, but he told me I would cherish the photos and reminded me that Caelan is part of our heritage. Our photographer Melanie took photos in the NICU before and after we removed the life support. I had a beautiful DVD to play at the memorial service and I cherish the photos, they are beautiful. In addition, I found found an invaluable support system on the forum at the NILMDTS website. I miss my son everyday, but am thankful for this resource.
