Gabriel was born July 8, 2009 at 27 weeks. He was flown to Cook's Childrens Medical Center in Ft. Worth. Gabriel was doing well until he started needing blood transfusions. The doctors and staff starting running tests to determine the reason for the transfusions. After an ultrasound of the brain, we were told Gabriel had "devastating bleeding of the brain" and the outcome was severe. The blood vessels had burst and spread over the entire brain, leaving nothing to spare. We were told we had a "window of opportunity" to decide to continue aggressive treatment or take him off life support. The staff shared with us the on-going list of problems that would await Gabriel starting around 3 months of age. It was so heart-breaking to hear all the pain he would endure. A week after birth, on July 15th, we held our precious son for the first time. Gabriel grew his wings that day and was welcomed into heaven by a couple of great-grandpa's and a great-grandma. Gabriel was born 12 minutes befo
