Jasmine,

Losing you has undoubtedly been the hardest thing I have ever gone through. I never thought I would survive. I never thought I'd ever be happy again. Parents aren't supposed to outlive their children. Babies aren't supposed to die. Learning to live without you has been a very difficult journey.

Your death has inspired me to help other families that have lost their precious babies. I started a fundraising campaign in your name to purchase a CuddleCot that was donated to the hospital in your memory. The CuddleCot has given families the invaluable gift of time with their angel babies. With the support from family, friends, and especially my manager and hospital administration we created Baby Jasmine's Angel Nursery at AMITA Health Adventist Medical Center Bolingbrook to help other families and to honor your life.

I never wanted your death to be in vain. I want my loss to benefit others. I want to bring pregnancy and infant loss to the forefront and out of the shadows. I want other families to know that it is okay to talk about their babies that have passed away and they will always be loved, missed, and remembered.

Baby girl, you are my inspiration and my motivation. There are no words to describe how much I love and miss you. I'd give anything to have you here with me. Your short life has made such an impact on the world and your memory will live forever.

Love you forever,

Mommy

Baby Jasmine's Angel Nursery is a room on the postpartum unit at AMITA Health Adventist Medical Center, Bolingbrook in Bolingbrook, IL (I am a registered nurse on the unit as well) for families of babies that have passed away. It gives them a more homelike environment to bond, parent and say goodbye to their precious angel babies before the mom is discharged from the hospital. It is exactly what I wish I had for Jasmine in the hospital she was born in. The idea for the room was inspired from a similar room at our sister hospital AMITA Health Adventist Medical Center, Hinsdale.

It is set up like a nursery you would have in your home for your baby. Complete with a crib, a beautiful crib bedding set, changing table, a Moses basket, a very comfortable rocker/recliner chair, musical mobile and decorations on the walls. For the siblings there is a bookcase with children's books, a table and chair set, puzzles and games.

The room is in memory of my baby girl Jasmine Janay Martinez. She was born and passed away 16 minutes later on October 31, 2014 at only 24 weeks and 3 days into my pregnancy due to complications from my preeclampsia.

It was made possible through the immeasurable support of my manager Diane Leonard, Rick Mace the AMITA Health Adventist Medical Center, Bolingbrook CEO, the generous donation from the Bolingbrook Hospital Foundation, my family and my friends.
