I never imagined it would happen to me. My husband and I are blessed to have three beautiful girls, but for years we tried for a boy. When we discovered we were expecting again, we just knew this was our son.

It was New Year Eve, 2019, and we were preparing to head to church. When I stood up from the couch, my life changed forever.

“Your baby is dead, do you understand?”

Those words marinated in my brain, causing me to be mentally paralyzed. “Your baby is dead, do you understand?” As if the doctor needed to repeat herself for a second time. We never found out the gender of our little butterfly, and I was clear on never trying again.

I found myself in a dark place but was determined not to stay there. I started to journal my thoughts, my feelings, and my hospital experience as this miscarriage almost cost me my life.

Later that year, I turned my writings into a book entitled, The Butterfly That Couldn’t Flutter. I’m sharing my testimony to encourage, uplift, and inspire other women who have miscarried, to have faith over fear.

In the spirit of keeping the faith, we welcomed our rainbow baby boy one year later amid a pandemic.
