Alyson Jay-Marie

When we found out we were pregnant, we were so excited. We had everything planned and ready. For our gender reveal, we had my husband's sister get a cake made for us to cut into when we were ready to know.
When we showed up to pick up the cake, the bakery brought out a large blue cake and said, "This is the only one we have." Based on the color, we immediately thought it was a boy. They later found the correct cake.
We took it home and started a video so we could keep this memory. I had dreamed it was a girl a few weeks prior, so I already had a feeling. We cut into the cake, and there was nothing. No frosting to be found. So we called his sister, and she told us we were having a little girl.
We had talked about wanting a boy for so long, and when we heard it was a girl, we were scared but excited.
In those nine months, that little girl and I became best friends. She loved listening to music, and she always had a party after dinner. She would kick me so hard sometimes that it would scare me. She also loved her dad and would kick when he talked to her.
Alyson Jay-Marie Leach was born on July 30 at 5:51 p.m. She was 7 pounds, 6 ounces and 22 inches long. We got to spend 24 hours with her. She was the cutest little thing. She had her mom's nose and dad's chin.

July 30 is the worst and best day of our lives. We heard words that no parent ever wants to hear, but we also got to meet our daughter. We had been dreaming about the moment we would meet our daughter for nine long months, and to finally be able to hold her was an amazing moment, with the continuous reminder that we were not going to be able to take her home from the hospital.
That back-and-forth feeling is something that is hard to describe. Your daughter is in your arms, but only for a short time.
Alyson was healthy, and so was the entire pregnancy. So when we were told she didn't have a heartbeat at 40 weeks and 1 day, life didn't feel real. Alyson had four different scans done to look for a heartbeat, and two different doctors came to check.
Those moments of silence while waiting for the doctors' words were the worst minutes of our lives. We hoped and prayed for one of those doctors to say something different, but as time passed, the moment became real. Our sweet, innocent daughter had passed away, and nothing could be done to change that.
We were told that this can happen and that when she was delivered, they would be able to tell us more.
After delivery, they found a knot in her umbilical cord that had been pulled tight because it was also wrapped around her twice.
We wanted to share this because I had never heard of this happening. The doctor told us it happens in about 0.3% of births, with an even lower percentage of those knots becoming pulled tight. What she passed away from is called a "true knot" of the umbilical cord.

Before leaving the hospital, my husband asked to see the knot in the umbilical cord. They brought it in, and as I was holding Alyson, we got to see what had taken her life from us. My husband untied the knot because it didn't deserve to be there.
We had the kindest team working with us. They held her, talked to us about their own losses and how many of them had experienced a stillbirth, and offered support. I can't thank the team we had enough for the support they provided and continue to provide as they check in on us.
On that drive home, it felt like the world should stop. You're experiencing the worst day of your life, sitting at a stoplight and looking around while no one knows what you are going through.
Those next few weeks all felt like one day. Nothing seemed to feel real. A time in your life that was supposed to be filled with late nights and early mornings holding your daughter, changing diapers, burping her, and experiencing all of her firsts was instead filled with emptiness.
We saw so many hummingbirds in our backyard when we got home. We now think of her every time we see a hummingbird.
This little girl changed everyone's life around her. We are still her parents, and she is still our daughter. The love and care we have for our beautiful daughter will never change, and it will never go away.
Our family is so thankful for the pictures that were taken of our little girl. They have helped us move through our grief and allowed us to share her with our friends and family. They have been a huge part of navigating this loss for me and have helped me continue to share her with people.
We have wonderful remembrance photographs that allow us to do this. They give us a way to share Alyson, to remember her, and to make sure her life and the love we have for her are never forgotten.

May 18, 2026 I had a grandson who was born with abode syndrome 1/32000 have it, we enjoyed 8 hours with him his mom, my Daughter held him all day we celebrate Stayton Wade everyday we talk about him, he was angel of God
So sorry to hear about the loss of your little precious one💕
I am so sorry for yall.. I had a great pregnancy but I tried and tried to have one more baby but never had the chance of having another baby.. Little did I know my husband and myself had to raise our granddaughters.. We had 3 of them and we loved them with all our hearts and now they are grown they are 28, 26 and 22. The granddaughter that is 22 has blessed us with a great granddaughter..
We had the joy of our fourth daughter being live born. But regrettably within hours they told us she had a fulminating Strep B infection which killed nine out of 10 of those unlucky enough to be born suffering with this condition. Three days later having given it her all, on Christmas Eve we were forced to discontinue those heroic efforts to preserve her life, her little body overwhelmed by the sepsis that had consumed it. So we too left the hospital with broken hearts and empty arms. Other than we were fortunate to be able to let our little girl feel our love and care as we tended her in that vigil. Nor is she lost to us, Today she lives safe in our hearts, only ever a thought away. And remains one of the most profound influences in my life, including the lives of her entire family including the seven other children I have parented. Not to live the life I’d imagined for her but continuing to play her own forever role in this her family. God bless you baby Tansy, always held, forever loved🤍
Precious photos of your beautiful girl💔 Nearly 40 years ago, all we have is one precious photo of our son Lee, born sleeping. I wish i had had more to treasure.
Sending you so much love and hugs so sorry for your loss.
MayGod be with you in this trying time! I am so very sorry for your loss! In November of 2004 I had a miscarriage that was the worst rest of the year ever! I have been unable to conceive since! I now have learned I have pcos and still suffer from ongoing endometriosis. I also have a tilted uterus! My heart goes out to you and your family! Sending many prayers your way!
I am so sorry this happened to you! My first baby girl was born human too and only way 2 lb 15 oz. It was 1980. We lived in a small town so it was not very advanced. She was perfect in every way except I love smart fully developed they said. She would forget to breathe and they had round the clock care for her but when she was left alone, whether on accident or by mistake, she stopped breathing. They started her breathing again and were there to watch her again. And this repeated for three or four times she was left alone and she shouldn’t have been and the last time she stopped breathing the doctor chose to play God and didn’t start her breathing again. I was a young mother only 21 and I didn’t know what birth was all about. I was in labor Friday night and the pains kept going through Saturday, I called my doctor and he told me he would send out some medicine for my stomach. I continued having the pains through Sunday and finally by Sunday evening I called my mother and said something has got to be wrong I’m going to go to the hospital and that’s when we found out that she was coming early so not only did that doctor fail me the baby doctor that was taken care of her after she was born tells me also and so did the hospital. I should have sued the plants off of all three of them but as I said I was young naive never had had birth or labor pains and had trusted the doctors. But I went on to have a successful birth of a baby boy a year and a half later and then two and a half years later I had a successful birth of a baby girl and then a year later I miscarried a set of twins and then a year and a half later I had a successful birth of a baby boy again and then having three successful births and babies I had a break for years and then had another successful baby birth I’m a girl however she was great so I had to have a C-section then 20 months later I was having another baby girl and they tried to have me do it naturally but it wasn’t working it kept giving me the medicine to induce me and it wasn’t working and they would give me more and it still wasn’t working and then her heart rate started to go down and my heart rate started to go down and luckily there was a nurse that said I’m not going to give her anymore of that she needs a C-section and when the C-section was done they found that the court had been wrapped around her neck twice and it was cutting off her breathing and it was cutting off my breathing I guess my blood pressure was going down but she was born successfully with a C-section and I thank God everyday that that nurse was there to intercede and bring that baby girl alive. So I know it does happen it would have been a little different than yours but similar being wrapped around her neck and I’m thankful for that then I had one more pregnancy after her 3 years for about two and a half years and it was not successful the baby didn’t live so by that time I had five healthy babies to raise which God had given me and somehow it’s still didn’t help the fact that I lost that first baby girl so I offer you my prayers and want to tell you to have faith in God and realize that he needed your little girl as an angel and that he will hopefully give you the successful births that you long for even more now. Thank you for listening to me God bless
Wow! I’m sitting here, crying for you!!! No parent deserves this outcome! I am Sooooo sorry……..
I am so sorry for your loss! Your baby girl is beautiful. It truly sucks! Our baby Bryce Shepherd Morris was born sleeping as well 12/4/1997. We had no answer why this happened. We did do an autopsy with no findings. God needed an angel. You grieve when you need too!!
